Do You Feel Frustrated and Bored Learning Languages? That Can’t Be!

Learning languages is fun, and you shouldn’t feel that way. It’s true that you may have bad days (or seasons) where you feel stuck, but normally, your learning method should include using the following apps or websites to make your learning as enjoyable as possible.

FOR VOCABULARY

  • Quizlet

This is the best website and app for learning vocabulary. You can create flashcards and add examples. It is very practical and allows you to do interactive activities with the new words so you can learn them faster. Additionally, you can mark the most difficult words to review the next day without having to repeat the entire set of flashcards. You can also find other Quizlets created by other people. It’s amazing! In this post, we explain better how this website/app works to make the most of it.

  • Memrise

This is good for learning vocabulary, but especially for children since it is more visual than Quizlet. Personally, I think it’s good but it takes much longer to finish reviewing the set of new words. You can try both and choose the one you like the most!

FOR LISTENING COMPREHENSION

Language Reactor

This is a Chrome extension that allows you to learn languages by watching series and movies on Netflix or videos on YouTube. The best part is that it allows you to have dual subtitles, so you can have subtitles in English and Spanish or any other language at the same time. Moreover, it allows you to save new words to study later and provides different examples with the same word so you can read it in different contexts. It also has a ChatGPT-like bot with which you can practice speaking or writing. Amazing! In this post, we explain in more detail how to use Language Reactor to make the most of it.

FOR READING COMPREHENSION

Lingq

This is both a website and an app for reading where you can get the translation of a word just by clicking on it. Incredible! Moreover, the word is automatically saved in a list of unknown words that you can learn later with interactive activities. It has a very visual and user-friendly interface. You can read anything from books to news articles, etc. Highly recommended!

FOR SPEAKING

ChatGPT or the Language Reactor bot

On the website, you don’t have this option, but in the app, you do. Open the app and when you create a new chat, you’ll have the option to click on some headphones at the bottom right. When you click, you can say “I would like to practice …”. For example, if you are learning Spanish, you can say “I would like to practice Spanish” and the bot will automatically start speaking to you in Spanish. Super easy! You can watch this video where I explain how to do it.

FOR WRITING

Lang8

This is a website where you can write texts, and someone who speaks that language will correct them. It works very well. At first, I thought it wouldn’t work, but I was very wrong. You receive corrections very quickly. In return, you have to correct the text of someone learning your native language. It’s a great exchange!

Do you have any questions? Write them in the comments, and we will respond as quickly as possible. Do you know of other interesting apps? Leave us a comment so we can all learn from it. See you in the next post!
